2009 Mercedes-Benz SLK-Class Overview
The all-new semi-redesigned 2009 Mercedes-Benz SLK Roadster's blend sophistication, power and sport with a distinguished brand name making it a car that you want to drive and be seen driving.
All three models feature redesigned front and rear bumpers. It’s the front bumper and grille that catches one’s eye. Set lower and with a dramatic split in the middle, the bumper, aggressive grille and modified apron conjure images of Formula One race cars.
The first of three trim levels, the SLK300 (formerly the SLK280) has a 228-horsepower, 3.0-liter V-6 engine that will take you from 0 to 60 in 6.1 seconds. The SLK300 is the only Roadster to offer optional transmissions—a 6-speed manual or 7-speed automatic. 17-inch alloy wheels are standard as well as the coolest feature of all—the retractable hard top.
What sets the SLK-Class apart from other Mercedes-Benz models is the retractable steel hardtop. Lower and raise the top and all four side windows as the rear window pivots 150 degrees while the top folds and stows away. All this in 22 seconds. All this with the push of a button.
If the SLK300 isn’t fast enough, the SLK350 certainly is. Boasting a 300-horsepower V-6 engine, the SLK350 will take you from 0 to 60 in 5.3 seconds. The seven-speed automatic transmission features Touch Shift, allowing the driver to manually shift gears using a lever. Add 17-inch 5-split-spoke wheels and the retractable hard top and you’ve got one scary-fast luxury vehicle.
Both SLK300 and SLK350 have leather interior, leather-wrapped three-spoke sport steering wheel and 8-way manual sport seats. Dual-zone climate control, 6-disc CD changer and Bluetooth hands-free communication come standard. The optional Entertainment Package boasts a MP3-compatable Harman-Kardon Logic 7 sound system, Sirius satellite radio, satellite navigation system and iPod connectivity.
If you thought the SLK350 was fast, you are right. However, it pales in comparison to the SLK55 AMG. Mercedes-Benz gets right to the point with a handcrafted 5.5-liter, 355-horsepower V-8 engine. The 7-speed automatic transmission allows you to shift gears using aluminum shift paddles behind the steering-wheel spokes. 8-way AMG-power heated seats with silver-painted magnesium frames light up the interior while 18-inch staggered-width AMG twin-spoke monoblock alloy wheels set fire to the exterior.
Safety and security features include driver and passenger front air bags, knee bags, side-impact head thorax air bags and 3-point seat belts. Other standard safety features include Antilock brakes, 4-wheel disc brakes and an Electronic Stability Program (ESP). All three trims come with Tele Aid. Tele Aid provides 24-hour live assistance for emergency aid, information and roadside assistance. If you are in an accident and the airbags are deployed, Automatic Collision Notification sends a signal to operators who quickly notify paramedics.
