2012 Mercedes-Benz R-Class Overview
Providing copious amounts of cargo space and luxurious appointments that are synonymous with German craftsmanship, the 2012 Mercedes-Benz R-Class crossover is the perfect family vehicle.
The 2012 Mercedes-Benz R-Class received a plethora of updates last year and adds a new engine and standard equipment such as the Command multimedia system, satellite radio and LED daytime running lights. Competition in the luxury crossover segment includes the Audi Q7 and BMW X5.
The new 302-horsepower, 3.5-liter V-6 engine with direct-injection and the efficient BlueTEC 210-horsepower, 3.0-liter turbo-diesel V-6, which generates a powerful 400 pounds-feet of torque. Both engines are mated to a seven-speed automatic transmission with paddle shifters for auto-manual mode and Mercedes’ 4MATIC all-wheel drive, which integrates a four-wheel electronic traction system that continually redistributes torque to the wheels with the best grip – even if it’s just one wheel. Fuel economy ratings vary between the gas and diesel engines at 16-18 mpg in the city and 21-24 on the highway.
Although it resembles a minivan or a wagon, the 2012 Mercedes-Benz R-Class crossover and its almost vertical rear fascia sports standard 19-inch five-spoke alloy wheels, trailer stability assist and LED daytime running lamps. Exterior options include: power-folding side mirrors, heated headlamp washers, bi-xenon headlamps, power liftgate, 20-inch AMG five-spoke alloy wheels and a panorama roof that spans three rows.
Seat between six and seven occupants in the 2012 Mercedes-Benz R-Class in three rows of seats. Choose from two second-row captains chairs or second row bench depending on how many you plan on seating. Both the second and third rows fold down individually for numerous configurations and up to 85 cubic feet of cargo volume. Imitation leather, burl walnut trim, dual zone climate control, power front seats, power sunroof, six-disc CD/DVD changer, SiriusXM Satellite Radio, Bluetooth connectivity, iPod/MP3 interface and 4GB hard drive all come standard. Leather upholstery, eucalyptus wood trim, Harman/Kardon sound system, and a rear entertainment system are optional.
In terms of safety, the 2012 Mercedes-Benz R-Class has eight airbags, active front head restraints, brake assist and hill-start assist as standard equipment. Blind spot assist, a rearview camera, parktronic and the Pre-Safe system, which tenses the seat belts, closes the windows and positions the front passenger seat for optimum protection when an impending collision is detected are optional.
The 2012 Mercedes-Benz R-Class luxury crossover has plenty of room for the family and plenty of safety features to keep them protected at all times.
