2009 Mercedes-Benz G-Class Overview
Not too far removed from its origin as a hardcore off-road military vehicle, the 2009 Mercedes-Benz G-Class features dominating V-8 power, a luxurious interior, and rugged styling.
Times have changed since the G500 was used in the military and so has Mercedes. That’s why the G500 has been replaced by the G550, which features a 5.5-liter, 382-horsepower V-8, which supplies the G550 with ample towing capabilities and excellent passing power. The standard seven-speed automatic transmission adjusts shift points to reflect your driving style and features Touch Shift for manumatic shifting ability. As the high-performance G55 AMG, it boasts a 5.5-liter, 500-horsepower supercharged V-8 engine and is one of the most powerful SUVs in the world. Either model features standard 4MATIC® 4-wheel drive with electronic locking center, front, and rear differentials creates maximum grip and traction in a variety of road and weather conditions. Competitors include the Hummer H2 and the Land Rover Range Rover.
Advanced amenities include Smartkey remote control with door unlock, valet key, panic alarm, driver preferences, and infrared remote opening and closing of the windows and sunroof. A standard DVD-based navigation system offers real-time traffic, mapping, and directions, while an amazing Harman/kardon® digital surround-sound stereo system with 6-disc CD changer and SIRIUS Satellite Radio offers an amazing audio experience. 10-way power-adjustable front seats with 3-position memory, heated front and rear outboard seats, premium leather upholstery, and a heated wood steering wheel evoke feelings of comfort and luxury inside the cabin.
The G-Class features a redesigned grille with a stainless-steel grille guard, new 18-inch five-twin-spoke wheels on the G550 and 19-inch five-spoke wheels on the G55 AMG. Both trims seat five and offer 70.5 cubic feet of cargo room.
Safety features include a standard 4-wheel Electronic Traction System that limits wheelslip on slippery roads and an Electronic Stability Program that controls engine power and brake application to help correct the vehicle’s course during evasive maneuvers. Standard dual front airbags and front/rear window curtain airbags protect both rows of passengers in a collision. Standard 4-wheel disc brakes with an Antilock Braking System, Brake Assist, and Electronic Brake Force Distribution increase stopping power, help maintain steering ability, and prevent wheel lockup.
