- Second year for the CLA-Class
- Two variants: CLA250 and CLA45
- Most affordable vehicle in the Mercedes lineup
Introduced last year, the 2015 Mercedes-Benz CLA-Class includes two distinct models and is the entry level car to the German automaker’s luxurious lineup of cars and SUVs.
For 2015, the CLA-Class adds a few standard features which account for the jump in base price. Mercedes is fond of calling the CLA-Class a coupe thanks to its tapered, curved styling but don’t let that fool you – it has four doors. There is not much glass on the CLA, the windows are slim all around and thanks to the large rear C-pillars visibility also suffers. The curvy design is rather aerodynamic though; Mercedes says that the CLA has the lowest coefficient of drag of any car around at 0.23, which beats even the Toyota Prius.
The CLA250 has a 208-hp, turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine that is mated to a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission. Front-wheel drive is standard, but Mercedes’ 4matic all-wheel drive system is also available. The CLA45 AMG puts more of an emphasis on performance and gets a more powerful engine to back that up, a 355-hp, twin-scroll turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder that is mated to the same seven-speed transmission and standard all-wheel drive.
Inside, the CLA has decent interior volume but its shape does limit the amount of headroom for backseat passengers. There are plenty of standard features, including dual-zone automatic climate control, dual-zone automatic climate control, a powered driver’s seat with memory, a 7-inch color display, Bluetooth connectivity, HD radio, and a USB port. True to form, Mercedes also offers a veritable laundry list of available features including a navigation system, advanced voice control capability, leather upholstery, heated front seats, and real wood trim pieces.
Mercedes has also given the CLA plenty of safety features, with eight airbags, forward collision prevention with automatic braking, attention assist which can notice driver fatigue and offers audible and haptic feedback, and electronic stability control all standard. Also available are a rearview camera, park assist, and blind spot/lane keeping assist.
