2012 Mercedes-Benz CL-Class Overview
The 2012 Mercedes-Benz CL-Class is the two-door equivalent of Mercedes' high-end S-Class sedan. With seating for four, the CL-Class competes with the Bentley Continental GT.
The CL measures a whopping 200 inches long, making it as long as some full-size SUVs. Exterior features include dual stainless steel exhausts with chrome tailpipes, a standard power moonroof, and bi-xenon headlights which include washers. The available AMG Sport Package adds front/rear aprons, side skirts and 20-inch wheels.
CL-Class coupes accommodate up to four occupants and have bucket-like rear seats. Standard interior features include the mbrace telematics system, heated front seats, power-closing trunk lid, Comand multimedia system, and burl walnut wood trim. A backseat DVD entertainment system is available.
Under the hood, the CL-Class maintains a rich powertrain selection for 2012. The CL550 4Matic has a 429-horsepower, twin-turbo 4.6-liter V-8 with 516 pounds-feet of torque, while the CL600 has a 510-hp, twin-turbo 5.5-liter V-12 with 612 pounds-feet of torque. A pair of high-performance AMG models are also available. The CL63 AMG has a 536-hp, twin-turbo 5.5-liter V-8 with 590 pounds-feet of torque and start-stop technology and the CL65 AMG has a 621-hp, twin-turbo 6.0-liter V-12. A five- or seven-speed automatic transmission runs power to the rear wheels, or all four wheel if the available 4Matic all-wheel drive system is equipped. A self-leveling suspension system standard and Parking Guidance, which assists in parallel-parking maneuvers, is optional with adaptive cruise control.
The 2012 CL-Class puts a premium on safety with side-impact airbags for both rows of seats and side curtain airbags joining antilock brakes, an electronic stability system, and the automated collision-mitigation braking system which prepares the car for impending impact. Options include an adaptive cruise control that adjusts speed automatically to maintain a preset following distance and a blind spot warning system available with adaptive cruise control. Standard Attention Assist system notifies drivers when they need a break, based on behavioral changes, while Night View Assist with pedestrian detection helps you see even in the dark.
