2009 Mazda RX-8 Overview
If your idea of driving is not just a mundane exercise to get from point A to B, then you will want to visit the newly-redesigned 2009 Mazda RX-8.  In addition to new aggressive front and rear styling, the RX-8 features a new trim level and the one-of-a-kind RENESIS rotary engine.

It’s been five years since the RX-8 was introduced and Mazda decided to spice it up with a wider grille, a restyled rear end with larger exhaust pipes, Bluetooth capability and a whole new performance-oriented trim level—the R3.

There are four models in all; the Sport, Touring, Grand Touring and R3.  All four are powered by a 1.3-liter RENESIS rotary engine that harness 232-horsepower and a 9000 rpm redline for the manual transmission and 212-horsepower and 7500 rpm for the automatic transmission. Only the R3 is not available in a 6-speed automatic transmission.  For a sports coupe, the RX-8 has poor fuel economy getting 16 MPG city and 22 MPG highway.  Because of the center-balanced weight, the RX-8 gets superior maneuverability making it one of the best handling cars in its class.

As far as space goes, the RX-8 has plenty.  The unique “freestyle” door system has the look of a sports coupe and the convenience of a 4-door, 4 passenger sedan.  The rear-hinged doors open toward the driver creating a wide opening for passengers and cargo.

Once inside the RX-8, enjoy the 100-watt, 6-speaker sound system with CD player for the Sport and all trims come standard with an auxiliary audio jack for iPod connectivity.  The Touring, Grand Touring and R3 all have a Bose® 9-speaker 300-watt sound system with Centerpoint® surround sound and AudioPilot®.  AudioPilot® senses exterior noise and adjusts the music to minimize the effects of unwanted noise.  The R3 features 19-inch alloy wheels and leather front Recaro sport seats The DVD Navigation System, available on the Grand Touring features a retractable 7-inch LCD screen with real-time mapping and directions.

All models come equipped with Anti-lock Brake System (ABS) with Electronic Brake Distribution (EBD), helping you maintain control in diverse weather and road conditions.  Traction Control System (TCS) enhances traction performance and are standard in all trims except for the sport.   Front air bags adjust deployment force based on the driver’s position and front passenger’s weight.  Side-impact air bags and side air curtains provide more protection from side-impacts.

The uniquely powerful and undeniably sleek 2009 Mazda RX-8 gives sport coupe enthusiasts something different, fun and fast.
