2009 Mazda MX-5 Miata Overview
As two-seat convertibles go, the 2009 Mazda MX-5 Miata is sportier than ever with plenty of options and the most important quality of all—plenty of sunshine.
Available in four trim levels – SV, Sport, Touring, and Grand Touring (no SV model with the hardtop) – the MX-5 Miata boasts a solid 2.0-liter, 166-horsepower four-cylinder engine with ample torque to scoot this two-seater around town. With a five or six-speed short-throw manual transmission available, the car is the ultimate grin-inducer. Mated to a rear-wheel drivetrain, either transmission provides quick shifts, squirting the car through traffic with ease. For those interested in more leisurely cruising, the six-speed automatic with paddle shifters will be a more appealing choice. An available Limited-Slip Differential, Bilstein® shocks, and a sport-tuned suspension create a virtually track-ready car that blazes through the open road. The Miata gets a respectable 21-22 MPG in the city and 28 MPG on the highway and competes with Pontiac Solstice and Honda S200.
The MX-5 Miata is the recipient of what is referred to as a “mid-cycle refresh.” Basically, that equates to revised front and rear-end designs, revised interior appointments, improved sound-deadening materials, new wheel designs and suspension upgrades. The MX-5 Miata is available with a standard manual-folding cloth soft top, which opens and closes easily with the driver inside the cockpit. The real innovation, however, is the available power hardtop that retracts in 12 seconds. An aluminum bonnet hood and trunk lid offer significant weight savings and increase the nimble handling.
Inside the two-seat cockpit, an available Bose® audio seven-speaker sound system with in-dash 6-disc CD changer and speed-sensing auto volume control provide the perfect accompaniment to a road trip. Available heated bucket seats with leather upholstery add a touch of class to the drive. Standard remote keyless entry allows you to lock and unlock the car from a distance. The standard mesh aero board windblocker does an excellent job of keep the wind out of the cabin.
Available Xenon High Intensity Discharge headlamps and available fog lights create excellent visibility and enhanced illumination. Standard dual front airbags and side impact airbags offer enhanced passenger protection in a collision. A tire pressure monitoring system constantly monitors tire pressure and alerts the driver to any significant changes.
A revised appearance, nice fuel economy and tight handling bring the “Zoom Zoom” to the 2009 Mazda MX-5 Miata.
