Your wallet will hurt more every time you fill up the Mazda than the Volkswagen GLI because of its larger tank. The Volkswagen GLI and the Mazda MAZDA6 compete for the same parking spaces. The Volkswagen's shorter wheelbase will likely give a nimbler feel in daily traffic. However, the Mazda MAZDA6 is likely to have a smoother, more stable ride.

Cost
The destination charge is a standard charge for transporting the vehicle from its point of origin to the dealer. It costs roughly the same to get the Volkswagen to the dealership as the MAZDA6. Regarding MSRP, the Volkswagen GLI costs almost as much as the Mazda (though the Mazda is a tad cheaper).

Handling
With their comparable turning radii, the Volkswagen GLI and the Mazda MAZDA6 most certainly handle approximately the same into and out of tight spots.

Drivetrain
The Volkswagen's engine is considerably smaller than the Mazda MAZDA6's. Remember that smaller engines can be stressed more; on the flip side, smaller engines are often cheaper to fix. Torque is the force that lets you accelerate quickly, and in this respect, the Volkswagen GLI is considerably more powerful than the Mazda MAZDA6.

While the front cabin in the Mazda offers a bit more head room than the Volkswagen GLI, there really isn't much of a difference. The Mazda MAZDA6 offers more head- and leg-room to your passengers than the Volkswagen GLI does.
