2012 Mazda Mazda6 Overview

Mazda’s 2012 Mazda6 is available in six trim levels with two available engines and three transmissions. This affordable midsize sedan gets high marks for driving performance, with its precise steering, responsive brakes, and good handling through turns.

The Mazda6 i models are powered by a 170-horsepower, 2.5-liter, four-cylinder engine. The i Sport is provides a choice of six-speed manual or five-speed automatic transmission, and all other i models are equipped with the five-speed automatic transmission with an auto-manual shift mode. The Mazda6 s models employ a 272-horsepower, 3.7-liter, V-6 engine and six-speed sport automatic transmission with auto-manual shift mode. All models of the Mazda6 are front-wheel drive. Push button start is available on the i Grand Touring and s Grand Touring models.

The i model engine gets 21 to 22 mpg in the city and 30 to 31 mpg on the highway, depending on manual or automatic transmission, and the s model V-6 gets 18 mpg in the city and 27 mpg on the highway. Both engines run on regular unleaded fuel.

The Mazda6 seats five, and include a cloth interior and 60/40-split fold rear seats. Driver seat adjustments are manual in the i Sport, all other models feature an eight-way power driver’ seat with adjustable lumbar support. The Grand Touring models offer standard leather-trimmed, heated front seats and have optional driver’s side memory and power four-way adjustable front passenger seat. All models above the i Sport include a leather-wrapped steering wheel and shift knob, and premium interior trim with silver accents. Cruise control, air conditioning, power windows and power door locks are available on all models, and the Grand Touring models include dual-zone automatic climate control. The base stereo with six speakers can be upgraded to include an in-dash six-CD changer or a premium Bose surround sound system with ten speakers. An audio input jack and steering wheel-mounted controls are included with all models, and Sirius Satellite Radio is available across the board. Bluetooth comes standard in all models but the i Sport, and the Grand Touring models include a multi-information display with back up camera and available navigation system.

The Mazda6 looks as great as it drives, with its sporty, sleek lines and aerodynamic appearance. The front end features a triangle chrome grille with angled halogen headlights and a separate lower air dam. Halogen fog lights and auto-off headlights are added to trim levels above the i Sport. Xenon high-intensity-discharge headlights, LED taillights, rain-sensing windshield wipers, and heated side mirrors are available on the Grand Touring models. Touring Plus and Grand Touring models include a power sliding-glass moonroof with one-touch-open and interior sunshade. The base i Sport has 16-inch steel wheels with full wheel cover, other trim levels include 17-inch aluminum alloy wheels, and the top of the line s Grand Touring is equipped with 18-inch aluminum alloy wheels.

Most safety features are standard on all models, and include front, front side-impact and side-impact curtain airbags, collapsible steering column, foldaway brake pedal assembly, and collapsible steering column. Anti-lock brakes with electronic brakeforce distribution and brake assist, dynamic stability control and traction control provide on-road and stopping response.
