The 2008 Mazda5 compact wagon gets a freshened exterior with new LED taillights and a new 5-speed automatic transmission this year, making it a more compelling choice than ever.

Available in three trim levels – Sport, Touring, and Grand Touring – the Mazda5 features a standard 2.3 liter 4-cylinder engine with 153 horsepower and somewhat anemic torque figures. For a vehicle of this size, it supplies somewhat sluggish acceleration, but offers good fuel efficiency. Sport models offer a standard 5-speed manual transmission, which helps with acceleration and fuel economy, while a 5-speed automatic with manual mode is available on all trim levels for smooth gear changes and excellent highway cruising.

Safety features include four-wheel disc brakes with an Anti-lock Braking System, Electronic Brakeforce Distribution and Brake Assist for enhanced stopping power and minimal wheel lockup. Standard Electro-Hydraulic Power Steering provides varying amounts of steering resistance, depending on speed and road conditions.
