Mazda Overview:
Mazda is approaching 2009 with several redesigned vehicles and fresh technology features. The most notable, the midsize Mazda6 sedan receives what designers call a “Japanese aesthetic”, which translates to more length and width and a retooled front fascia. The Mazda6 will also receive more power from the new 2.5-liter four-cylinder and the 3.7-liter V-6. The Mazda6 hatchback and wagon have been discontinued.

Value-conscious buyers will want to check out the Mazda3, which is available as a compact sedan or roomy 5-door wagon. The Mazda3 adds antilock brakes, side—impact and side curtain airbags as standard equipment. The Mazda3 competes with the Toyota Corolla and the Honda Civic, but its engines have a little more power on tap.

Drivers looking for even more “Zoom-Zoom” excitement will love the power and handling upgrades and sexier styling of the Mazdaspeed3 sport compact hatchback and its 263-horsepower turbocharged engine. Small families will want to consider stepping up to the six-passenger Mazda5 wagon, which get a new interior and exterior color in 2009.

Mazda introduced the Tribute Hybrid compact SUV, Mazda’s sibling to the Ford Escape and Mercury Mariner hybrids last year. The Tribute Hybrid gets a new 2.5-liter four cylinder engine that yields up to 34 mpg in the city and 31 mpg on the highway. The regular, gas-powered Tribute compact SUV receives new four-cylinder and V-6 engines and redesigned seating.

SUV buyers have two very sporty and stylish crossover models to choose from – the sweet-handling midsize CX-7 and the roomy, powerful full-size, 7-passenger CX-9. The CX-7 adds illuminated vanity mirrors and an auxiliary jack as standard equipment. The CX-9 gets a trip computer a towing package, Sirius Satellite Radio and Bluetooth connectivity in certain trims.

For the sporting enthusiast, the hot little MX-5 Miata convertible, with an available power retractable hardtop, offers sprightly acceleration and razor-sharp handling. Mazda's flagship sports car, the rotary-powered RX-8, features unique rear-doors and high-revving performance.

Pickup truck buyers will be pleased that Mazda continues to offer its popular B-series compact pickup truck in 2009, available as the 4-cylinder B2300 and the more powerful V-6 B4000.
