Mazda CX-9 vs. Pontiac Torrent Review

The destination charge is a standard charge for transporting the vehicle from its point of origin to the dealer. It costs almost the same to get the Pontiac to the dealership as the Mazda CX-9. There honestly isn't much of a difference in gas mileage here, but if you must know, the Pontiac Torrent is somewhat more economical than the Mazda CX-9. When it comes to gas mileage, the Torrent has the Mazda CX-9 beat. The Mazda CX-9 isn't much costlier than the Pontiac Torrent when it comes to MSRP.

Utility
The Mazda CX-9 will most certainly prove more practical than the Pontiac Torrent for those of you with frequent kid-cargo. Towing is significantly more the Torrent's forte than it is the Mazda CX-9's.

Convenience
The Mazda CX-9's fuel tank will need to be replenished slightly more often than the unit in the Pontiac Torrent.

Comfort
Taller drivers will substantially enjoy the extra head room in the Pontiac Torrent's front cabin compared to the Mazda CX-9. The Pontiac is not particularly roomier for your passengers than the Mazda CX-9.

Dimensions
The Mazda CX-9 is substantially heavier than the Pontiac Torrent. The Pontiac's tank is roughly the same size as the Mazda CX-9's, though the Mazda CX-9's is a tad bigger. The Torrent and the Mazda CX-9 compete for the same parking spaces.

Handling
With its tighter turning circle, the Mazda CX-9 is quite certainly more maneuverable than the Pontiac Torrent, something to consider if you do a lot of city driving; on the other hand, bear in mind that a vehicle with a tight turning circle may feel a bit twitchy on the highway.

Drivetrain
The Pontiac and the Mazda CX-9 have similar-sized engines, with a slight advantage to the Mazda CX-9. The Mazda CX-9 packs quite a punch compared to the Pontiac Torrent in terms of torque, which is roughly equivalent to acceleration. Torque is the force that lets you accelerate quickly, and in this respect, the CX-9 is substantially more powerful than the Pontiac Torrent.
