Mazda CX-9 vs. Mercury Mountaineer Review

Handling
With their similar turning radii, the Mercury Mountaineer and the Mazda CX-9 quite certainly handle about the same into and out of tight spots.

Drivetrain
The Mazda's engine is slightly smaller than the Mercury Mountaineer's, but not terribly so.

Utility
Neither the Mercury Mountaineer nor the Mazda CX-9 has a marked advantage as far as seating capacity. Towing is substantially more the Mercury Mountaineer's forte than it is the Mazda's.

Convenience
The Mazda CX-9's fuel tank will need to be replenished a little more often than the unit in the Mercury Mountaineer.

Comfort
While the front cabin in the Mercury Mountaineer offers a bit more head room than the Mazda CX-9, there really isn't much of a difference. The ampler interior dimensions of the Mazda CX-9 make it considerably more spacious for your passengers than the Mercury.

Dimensions
The Mazda's tank is about the same size as the Mercury's, though the Mercury Mountaineer's is somewhat bigger. The Mercury Mountaineer and the Mazda CX-9 compete for the same parking spaces.

Cost
The destination charge is a standard charge for transporting the vehicle from its point of origin to the dealer. It costs almost the same to get the Mazda CX-9 to the dealership as the Mercury Mountaineer. There honestly isn't much of a difference in gas mileage here, but if you must know, the CX-9 is a bit more economical than the Mercury Mountaineer. Regarding gas mileage, the Mazda CX-9 is a tad better than the Mercury Mountaineer, but not by much. The Mercury Mountaineer isn't much pricier than the Mazda CX-9 in terms of MSRP.

Warranty
The Mazda CX-9 and the Mercury Mountaineer have the same basic warranty.
