2013 Lexus IS-F Overview
Excluding the LFA supercar, the 2013 Lexus IS-F is the most exciting car in Lexus’ lineup and offers plenty of fun and performance along with Lexus build-quality and luxury.
Targeted at other high-performance sports cars like the BMW M3 and the Audi S4, the IS-F was a new direction for Lexus which has traditionally built cars that were long on comfort but short on excitement. The 2013 IS-F features more aggressive styling cues than the standard IS, with flared fender arches, quad tailpipes, and large front air intake that feeds air to the V-8. 19-inch wheels with summer tires are standard. Unlike the other IS models, the IS-F is only available as a sedan.
Under the hood, the IS-F gets a high-performance V-8 instead of the V-6 found in other IS variants. It outputs 416-horsepower and 371 pounds-feet of torque with a 7,000 RPM redline. There is only one transmission option, an eight-speed automatic with paddle shifters. The transmission executes shifts in one-tenth of a second and rev matches for smoother downshifts, which also saves wear and tear on the transmission. With all that power on tap, something is needed to stop it so Brembo brakes with cross-drilled discs are standard. Fuel economy ratings are 16/23 mpg city/highway.
Inside, the IS-F offers good fit and finish with a few sporty flourishes, including special sport seats and F-Sport logos spread throughout the cabin. A 13-speaker premium sound system is standard, as is USB/iPod integration, Bluetooth connectivity (including audio streaming), satellite radio, push-button start, and a HomeLink transceiver. Both front seats are powered and heated, and leather upholstery is also standard. Dual-zone automatic climate control and a powered moonroof give occupants complete control of the cabin’s temperature and environment. Options include a navigation system, Lexus’ Enform App Suite, HD radio, and Alcantara seat inserts.
There are also plenty of safety features layered into the 2013 IS-F, including Lexus’ Safety Connect system which functions like GM’s OnStar service and includes a complimentary year’s subscription to the service. Eight airbags, Smart Stop Technology, an electronic stability system, and a Vehicle Dynamics Integrated Management system are standard. Radar-controlled dynamic cruise control and parking sensors are optional.
