- Convertible version of the IS 350
- Not redesigned for 2014 (only sedan versions received updates)
- Top raises and lowers in 21 seconds
The 2014 Lexus IS 350c is the convertible version of the IS 350, offering a power-folding hardtop and unique coupe styling.
Though the IS350 sedan got an extensive redesign for 2014, the 350c remains basically unchanged from last year’s model. Lexus has not yet said if they plan on continuing to make convertible models after this year.
Despite sharing most of a name, there are a few big differences between the two vehicles. The IS 350c seats four instead of five and has two doors. Even with the top up, it’s easy to tell them apart; thanks to a lack of rear doors, the profile is completely changed with an abbreviated roof that drops down sharply once it passes the front windows. With the top up, the IS 350c looks more quirky than sleek; frankly put, we prefer the styling with the top down where the proportions look more natural.
The power-folding hardtop that opens or closes in just 21 seconds, and inside you will find anti-glare gauges that remain readable even when they are in direct sunlight with the top down. The audio and climate system have also been designed to automatically adjust volume or temperature setting when the top is lowered.
Under the hood, you’ll find 306-hp, 3.5-liter V-6 that generates 277 pounds-feet of torque and is mated to a six-speed automatic. The IS 350c has slightly lower EPA estimated fuel economy ratings than the sedan, thanks to the added weight from the drop top, 19/27 mpg city/highway.
Inside, the IS 350c offers plenty of standard comfort and convenience features including dual-zone automatic climate control, USB/iPod connectivity, push button start, Bluetooth, 10-way powered front seats, and leather upholstery. Options include a navigation system that accepts voice commands, Lexus’ Enform telematics system, and a Mark Levinson 14-speaker sound system. The IS 350c seats up to four passengers, but there isn’t much space in the back.
When it comes to safety, the IS 350c has you covered with Lexus’ Safety Connect service, which automatically notifies authorities after a crash, as standard equipment. Also standard are all-disc antilock brakes, an electronic stability system, and six airbags, including driver and passenger knee airbags.
