- Seven passenger seating capacity
- 301-hp, V-8 engine
- Standard four-wheel drive system
The 2016 Lexus GX 460 is a midsize SUV on a truck based platform that is designed to comfortably carry up to seven passengers on paved roads or untamed terrain.
While the GX 460 wasn’t designed as an off-roader, its robust chassis and full-time four-wheel drive gives it an edge over other SUVs when encountering rough terrain. The standard four-wheel drive comes with a low-range which makes it ideal for getting out of sticky situations. The GX 460 may be a luxury SUV but its boxy, upright look appears more rugged than sleek. 18-inch wheels, running boards, and a power moonroof come standard, while LED headlights with daytime running light accents are optional.
The GX 460 has one engine option: a 301-hp, 4.6-liter V-8 with 329 pounds-feet of torque and is mated to a six-speed automatic transmission and standard full-time four-wheel drive. An optional towing package allows the SUV to tow up to 6,500 pounds. Fuel economy is estimated at 15/20 mpg city/highway.
On the inside, the 2016 GX 460 offers the luxury, comfort, and style expected from Lexus brand vehicles. The second-row slides and reclines for comfort, while the third-row is powered and folds down flat. This gives the SUV some flexibility in its ability to carry passengers and cargo. Standard features include leatherette upholstery, an auto-dimming rearview mirror, power front seats, automatic climate control, Bluetooth connectivity, HD radio, and two USB ports. If you choose to go with the subscription-based Lexus Enform Remote service, the GX 460 allows for control of certain smartphone features and also automatically generates vehicle maintenance information available through a Lexus app and online. Lexus also offers a long list of available features such as a Mark Levinson premium audio system, navigation, wood trim, and heated/ventilated front seats.
The 2016 GX 460 maintains the new safety technology introduced in the previous model year such as an available blind spot warning system, joining lane departure warnings, pre-collision warnings, and park assist on the options list. Standard safety equipment includes ten airbags, an electronic stability system, antilock brakes, and a rearview camera.
