2015 Lexus GX 460 Overview

  • Seven passenger seating capacity
  • 301-hp, V-8 engine
  • Standard four-wheel drive system
The 2015 Lexus GX 460 is a midsize SUV on a truck based platform that can transport up to seven occupants in comfort over paved roads or untamed terrain.

The GX 460 isn’t a purpose-built off-roader, but it sure beats a crossover when the going gets tough thanks to its more robust chassis and full-time four-wheel drive that comes with a low-range for getting out of sticky situations. It also has a boxy, upright look that appears more rugged than sleek. Last year, styling was updated to incorporate a large version of Lexus’ spindle grille up front. 18-inch wheels, running boards, and a power moonroof come standard, while LED headlight with daytime running light accents are optional.

Under the hood, the GX 460 has one engine option, a 301-hp, 4.6-liter V-8 that makes 329 pounds-feet of torque and is mated to a six-speed automatic transmission and standard full-time four-wheel drive. With a towing package installed, the GX 460 can tow up to 6,500 pounds. Fuel economy figures are estimated at 15/20 mpg city/highway and the GX 460 takes premium fuel.

Inside, the 2015 GX 460 offers the luxury and comfort one would expect from a vehicle with the Lexus badge. The second and third rows both feature some flexibility that helps if you’re carrying passengers or cargo; the second-row slides and reclines for comfort, while the third-row is powered and folds down flat. There are plenty of standard features, including leatherette upholstery, an auto-dimming rearview mirror, power front seats, automatic climate control, Bluetooth connectivity, HD radio, and USB ports. Lexus also offers a long list of available features such as a Mark Levinson audio system, navigation, wood trim, and heated/ventilated front seats.

Lexus added new safety technology to the GX 460 last year, with an available blind spot warning system joining lane departure warnings, pre-collision warnings, and park assist on the options list. Standard safety equipment includes ten airbags, an electronic stability system, antilock brakes, and a rearview camera.
