There's no clear winner between the Land Rover and the BMW X5 regarding hauling capacity. The Land Rover Range Rover Sport and the BMW X5 can accommodate the same number of passengers. Towing is quite a bit more the Land Rover Range Rover Sport's forte than it is the X5's.

Dimensions
The Range Rover Sport is substantially more ponderous than the BMW. The Land Rover Range Rover Sport's tank is roughly the same size as the BMW X5's, though the BMW X5's is a tad more capacious. The BMW X5 and the Land Rover Range Rover Sport compete for the same parking spaces.

Convenience
The Land Rover Range Rover Sport's fuel tank will need to be replenished more often than the unit in the BMW X5.

Cost
The destination charge is a standard charge for transporting the vehicle from its point of origin to the dealer. It costs roughly the same to get the X5 to the dealership as the Land Rover Range Rover Sport. The Range Rover Sport consumes a lot of gas compared to the BMW X5. The BMW X5 will save you money at the pump compared to the Land Rover Range Rover Sport. As far as MSRP, the BMW X5 costs markedly less than the Land Rover Range Rover Sport.

Handling
The Land Rover Range Rover Sport and the BMW X5 have roughly similar tires. With their comparable turning radii, the Land Rover and the BMW X5 quite certainly handle roughly the same into and out of tight spots.
