Cost
The Spectra will tax your gasoline budget considerably more than the Rio will. Producing an exact fuel economy evaluation is so hard that some think not even the federal government can do it, but it looks as though both the Kia Rio and the Kia Rio perform almost similarly with respect to fuel economy. The Kia Spectra is significantly pricier than the Rio when it comes to MSRP.

Utility
Neither the Rio nor the Kia Spectra has a marked advantage when it comes to seating capacity.

Convenience
You likely won't have to visit your friendly gas station more often with the Kia Rio than with the Kia Spectra, because both offer similar mileage ranges.

Comfort
While the front cabin in the Spectra offers a bit more head room than the Kia Rio, there honestly isn't much of a difference. The Kia Spectra is not particularly more spacious for your passengers than the Kia Rio.

Dimensions
Your wallet will hurt more every time you fill up the Kia Spectra than the Kia Rio because of its larger tank. The Kia Rio and the Spectra compete for the same parking spaces.

Performance
With respect to horsepower, the Kia Spectra packs quite a wallop and will knock the Kia Rio down a few rungs. On the flip side, note that high horsepower engines often command higher insurance premiums.

With their comparable turning radii, the Kia Rio and the Kia Spectra quite certainly handle about the same into and out of tight spots.

The Kia Spectra's engine is significantly more sizeable than the Kia Rio's. Note that more sizeable engines may use more gasoline than smaller ones. The Spectra packs quite a wallop compared to the Kia Rio with respect to torque, which is roughly equivalent to acceleration.

Warranty
The Spectra and the Rio have the same basic after-sale protection.
