I thought that my 2013 KIA Soul was the ultimate urban cruiser for me! It did fit my lifestyle perfectly. Good mileage, lots of room, (as a mater of fact I brought a Kenmore Wash Machine home from Sears in the back of my Soul.(fit with no problem!) But when I test drove a 2014 recently...well I put a deposit on a new 2014 Soul Exclaim. My 2013 is being taken over by my wife! So it stays in the family. The main improvements were what swayed me. The 2014 Rides and handles at least 70% better. My 2013 beats me up a bit on the freeway expansion strips! The interior of the 2013 was nice...but the 2014 is quieter, better eat material, better padding, nice soft touch surfaces where my '13 had hard plastics, and quality perception is better as far as materials, just a bunch of evolutionary improvements. The acceleration and shifting is about the same, even tho this 2014 now has direct gasoline injection which normally would show a slight mileage improvement, this 2014 gets the same as my 2013. Same supurb 6 speed automatic. My 2014 is going to be black...to help hide the somewhat ugly rear blacked out "bustle" on the hatch. I think it's a stylized black skate board! Right out of the dealership, my 2013 was the best made, most reliable, zero defect car I've ever owned. Perfect paint, perfect assembly, all the body work has tight tolerances, as does the interior... quality oozes from it! This 2014 is absolutely the same! I can tell that KIA Sweated the details...adding more sound deadening and better/thicker seals in the doors. The KIA Soul won the J.D. Powers top award for Owner Satisfaction and Initial Quality last year...and this 2014 will too. KIA Appears to be a company whose motto is "Merely Good is not good enough"! Dare I say it, but KIA is rapidly becoming a Automobile Company that is causing a lot of the "Competition" to glance nervously over their shoulders at the KIA in their rear view mirror! Thanks to their President and Design Chief Peter Schreyers efforts and skills, and his talented staff...look out World!
