2011 Kia Sorento Overview
The 2011 Kia Sorento crossover provides tremendous value and has been redesigned in so many different ways that it is practically a brand-new vehicle.
There are three primary changes to the 2011 Kia Sorento: a new engine, more comfortable platform and robust seating capacity. For 2011, the Sorento adds a 2.4-liter, 175-horsepower inline-four cylinder engine to the sturdy 3.5-liter, 276-horsepower V-6. The four-cylinder is mated to either a six-speed auto or six-speed manual transmission, while the V-6 is available on the EX trim and is mated to the automatic transmission. Both engines boast optional four-wheel drive, but require the automatic transmission. When equipped the 2011 Kia Sorento boasts a maximum towing capacity of 3,500 pounds.
Another deviation from last year’s model is the platform. Instead of a truck-based SUV platform, the 2011 Kia Sorento uses a car-based crossover platform. Last year, the Sorento had two rows of seats, while the new platform allows for three rows. The Sorento offers 37 cubic feet of cargo volume behind the rear seats and 72.5 cubic feet of cargo volume when both the second and third rows are folded. This places the Sorento between the compact Kia Sportage crossover and the truck-based Kia Borrego SUV. Meanwhile, the 2011 Kia Sorento competes with Dodge Journey, Mitsubishi Outlander Honda CR-V and Toyota RAV4. When it comes to fuel economy, the 2011 Kia Sorento receives 19-21 mpg in the city and 25-29 mpg on the highway.
Available in two trims: base, LX and EX, the 2011 Sorento has a host of standard features to both the interior and exterior. 17-inch alloy wheels, CD/MP3 audio system with SIRIUS Satellite Radio, steering-wheel-mounted controls, auxiliary and USB input jacks and Bluetooth capability are standard. Take it to the next level with optional 18-inch mirror-finish wheels, fog lights, panoramic sunroof, rear spoiler, tow hitch, roof rails, dual-zone automatic temperature control with ionized air filtration, leather seat trim, 8-way power driver’s seat, heated front seats, an Infinity surround sound audio system with 10 speakers and a DVD player.
Dual front airbags, seat-mounted side airbags and side curtain airbags for the front and second rows provide a soft cushion in the event of an accident. The 2011 Kia Sorento also features front active headrests, 4-wheel antilock brakes, brake assist system, hill assist control and an electronic stability system with traction control all come standard.
The revitalized 2011 Kia Sorento boasts a value-packed punch of power, versatility and style that is sure to turn heads.
