2013 Kia Forte Koup Overview
A sporty entrant into the compact car fray, the 2013 Kia Forte Koup adds a welcome dash of fun to what's usually a rather stoic segment.
The Forte is offered in three varieties: a coupe (Forte Koup), sedan, and five-door hatchback (the sedan and hatchback are covered separately on this website).
From the outside, there are design touches that separate the Forte Koup from the Forte sedan/hatch. Up front there is a larger front air dam that adds aggression to the nose, while in the rear unique taillights and a chrome-tipped dual exhaust have the same effect. Power folding and heated side mirrors are standard, while a power sunroof and fog lights are optional.
There are two engine options to be found in the Forte Koup. EX models get a 156-horsepower, 2.0-liter inline-four while SX models get a more powerful 173-horsepower, 2.4-liter inline-four. A six-speed manual transmission is standard while a six-speed automatic is optional. The SX, besides having a more powerful engine, also gets a few other performance upgrades including a sport suspension and larger 17-inch alloy wheels.
Fuel economy figures vary depending on your choice of engine/transmission. The most efficient combination is the EX with an automatic transmission, which returns 25 mpg in the city and 34 mpg on the highway. Opting for the manual lowers each of those figures by one. The SX gets 22/32 mpg city/highway with the manual, and 23/31 mpg city/highway with the automatic.
Inside the Forte Koup, be prepared to find plenty of standard equipment – the Forte Koup comes with one of the best standard features lists in the segment. Bluetooth connectivity, steering wheel audio/cruise/Bluetooth controls, satellite radio, USB/iPod/auxiliary audio inputs, and air conditioning all come standard. Options include a navigation system with an integrate rearview camera, push button start, and automatic climate control. One area the Forte Koup does lose out to the sedan is cargo space: 12.6 cubic feet versus the sedan’s 14.7.
Standard safety features include six airbags, active front head restraints, electronic stability control, and four-wheel disc antilock brakes.
With a sporty driving experience and plenty of standard features, the 2013 Kia Forte Koup is a fun car that’s perfect for commuters and young drivers alike.
