2009 Jeep Grand Cherokee Overview

One of the standard bearers in ever-evolving world of SUVs, the 2009 Jeep Grand Cherokee is the perfect blend of off-road capability and luxurious interior amenities that include cutting-edge technology.

The Grand Cherokee is available in four distinct trim levels – the capable Laredo, the loaded Limited, rugged Overland and hot-rod SRT8. Engine choices range from a 3.0-liter, 215-horsepower V-6 turbo diesel (delivers up to 30 percent better fuel economy compared to gas engines); a 3.7-liter, 210-horsepower V-6; a 4.7-liter, 301-horsepower Flex Fuel V-8; a redesigned 5.7-liter, 357-horsepower HEMI V-8 and a 6.1-liter, 420-horsepower Hemi V-8 in the SRT8.  Fuel economy for the Grand Cherokee varies with 11-18 mpg in the city and 14-23 mpg on the highway.  The Grand Cherokee competes with the Ford Explorer and the Toyota 4Runner.

Standard two-wheel drive models provide rear-wheel drive acceleration and good towing ability. For more serious off-road pursuits and hauling capability, several 4x4 systems are available, from full-time Quadra-Trac® 4WD to the ultimate Quadra-Drive® 4WD system with an Electronic Limited Slip Differential. Either way, the Jeep can handle the rough stuff with ease. Handling capabilities are enhanced with an advanced Electronic Stability control system with all-speed traction control, brake assist, and Electronic Roll Mitigation. These systems work together by applying selective wheel braking and engine throttle control to help maintain directional stability. Trailer Sway Control helps to reduce trailer sway and improved handling even in crosswinds or heavy traffic. Standard on 4x4 models, Hill Descent Control allows smooth and controlled descents on rough or slippery terrain. Hill Start Assist helps the vehicle climb from a stop on a hill by applying appropriate brake pressure.

Interior amenities are plentiful across the board.  The Grand Cherokee boasts the incredibly versatile UConnect® system that can fulfill your digital dreams through a 6.5-inch touch screen.  Turn your car into a Wi-Fi hotspot and connect laptops, phones, PSPs, PDAs and play online games, surf the internet and download music.  The 30 GB hard drive lets you upload and store up to 6,700 songs, tons of photos and play your iPod/MP3 player through the sound system.  Include Sirius Satellite Radio, turn-by-turn navigation and Bluetooth connectivity and you’ve just turned your car into the ultimate entertainment center. A 276-watt Boston Acoustics®  Premium Sound System with six speaker, interactive touch-screen capability, voice-activated navigation, and real-time traffic updates for superior driving. It also features a ParkView® Rear Back-Up Camera helping to ensure safe parking maneuvers.

Still one of the best SUVs on the market, the 2009 Jeep Grand Cherokee continues to evolve and mature into a sophisticated luxury vehicle while retaining its rugged off-road capabilities.
