2010 Jeep Compass Overview
With so many choices in the crowded crossover segment it’s easy to get confused. However, if you are looking for a five-passenger front-wheel crossover, let the 2010 Jeep Compass show you the way.
With competition from Honda Element and Ford Escape, the Jeep Compass experienced an interior redesign in 2009 featuring a new dashboard and upgraded materials. The Compass is built on the Dodge Caliber’s car-based platform and is currently available in Sport and Limited trim levels and four-wheel-drive capability is an option that will allow plenty of off-roading adventures.
Two powertrain options are available, including a 158-horsepower, 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine and 172-horsepower, 2.4-liter four-cylinder. Both are mated to a two-speed CVT with overdrive or five-speed manual with overdrive. EPA-estimated fuel economy is impressive with up to 23 mpg in the city and 29 mpg on the highway.
The Sport sits on standard 17-inch aluminum wheels, while the Limited sits on 18-inch aluminum wheels. Fog lamps and side roof rails are also standard. Options include a navigation system, hands-free communication system and remote start. Sport models feature suspension tuning for a smoother more comfortable ride. The front passenger seat and 60/40-split rear seats can be folded flat to allow a maximum cargo capacity of 53.6 cubic feet.
Optional packages include the security and cargo convenience group featuring front side airbags, heated cloth seats, cargo cover, auto-dimming rearview mirror and Bluetooth capability. The sun and sound group adds six upgraded speakers, flip-down tailgate speakers, subwoofer, sunroof and satellite radio. Uconnect Tunes adds a touch screen audio interface, hard drive for digital music storage and USB audio jack.
Standard safety features on the 2010 Jeep Compass include hill-start assist with manual transmission, side curtain airbags, electronic stability system with electronic roll mitigation, antilock braking system, traction control, driver and front passenger active head restraints and Smart Key, which immobilizes the engine to prevent theft.
All in all, the 2010 Jeep Compass boasts excellent fuel efficiency, plenty of standard safety features, loads of options and cargo-carrying flexibility.
