A rugged and supremely capable throwback to the Jeep models of yesteryear, the 2008 Jeep Commander is a big, burly full-size SUV boasting a variety of powerful engines and enhanced off-road capabilities this year

The Commander is available in 5 distinct trim levels – the capable 5- or 7-passenger Sport, the loaded Limited, rugged Overland, and top-of-the-line custom Rocky Mountain Edition. Engine choices start off with a 210-horsepower 3.7 liter V6 engine which is decent, but not spectacular. The refined and powerful 4.7 liter V8 has Flex Fuel capability to run on gasoline or E85 ethanol. The dominant 5.7 liter HEMI® V8 churns out 330 horsepower to boost your capability and acceleration. With its fuel-saving Multi-Displacement System, it deactivates four cylinders while cruising to maximize fuel savings.

Standard two-wheel drive models provide rear-wheel drive acceleration and good towing ability. For more serious off-road pursuits and hauling capability, several 4x4 systems are available, from full-time Quadra-Trac® 4WD to the ultimate Quadra-Drive® 4WD system with an Electronic Limited Slip Differential. Either way, the Jeep can handle the rough stuff with ease. Handling capabilities are enhanced with an advanced Electronic Stability control system with all-speed traction control, brake assist, and Electronic Roll Mitigation. These systems work together by applying selective wheel braking and engine throttle control to help maintain directional stability. New Trailer Sway Control helps to reduce trailer sway and improved handling even in crosswinds or heavy traffic. Standard on 4x4 models, Hill Descent Control allows smooth and controlled descents on rough or slippery terrain. Hill Start Assist helps the vehicle climb from a stop on a hill by applying appropriate brake pressure.

Interior amenities include a selection of high-quality leather trims and available heated seats for wintertime comfort. Available SIRIUS® Backseat TV™ offers an array of family-friendly channels to entertain on-the-go families. A new option for 2008, the MyGIG™ Multimedia Infotainment System features a 276-watt Premium Sound System with six speaker, interactive touch-screen capability, voice-activated navigation, and real-time traffic updates for superior driving. It also features a ParkView® Rear Back-Up Camera helping to ensure safe parking maneuvers. You can also upload pictures and up to 1,600 songs on its 20 GB internal hard drive.

With its throwback, boxy styling and impressive list of features, the 2008 Jeep Commander is an excellent full-size SUV with a fine off-road pedigree to match.
