New 2009 Jaguar XKR

The luxury crowd wanted to kick things up a notch, and Jaguar responded with the 2009 Jaguar XKR, a powerful roadster with a more than gentle touch of refinement that echoes the automaker’s high-class reputation.

An enhanced version of the XK, the XKR comes similarly in a coupe or convertible body style, powered by an even larger 420-horsepower 4.2-liter supercharged V-8 engine. Coupled with a six-speed sequential shift automatic transmission, 413 pound-feet of torque provide for smooth acceleration and steering wheel-mounted paddles allow for manual shifting.

Competing in the same luxury category as the the Audi A8, BMW 750 and Mercedes-Benz CLS 63, the XKR outdoes the others in exterior design accents and interior refinement. For this year, the XKR adds standard power folding exterior mirrors and a 525-watt satellite radio. Fuel economy is more than comparable to its peers, at 15 MPG city and 23 MPG highway.
