2014 Infiniti Q50 Overview

New/Notable:
  • Redesigned replacement for the G37 sedan
  • New hybrid version available for 2014 (covered separately)
  • Two touchscreens in the center console
For 2014, Infiniti has scrapped the names of all of its models and brings them back with new names. The G37 sedan is now the Q50, but it gets more than just a new name this year, adding a complete redesign that fully changes the styling, inside and out.

Though the Q50 keeps the same wheelbase as the G37, the sheet metal has been totally reworked and the new result is longer and lower than the old model. This, along with a sleek, curvy design gives the Q50 an overall coefficient of drag of 0.26. For perspective, the notoriously slippery Toyota Prius is 0.25 meaning the Q50 is in impressive company. LED headlights, running lights, and taillights, along with 17-inch alloy wheels come standard.

Under the hood, the Q50 offers a 328-hp, 3.7-liter V-6 that is mated to a seven-speed automatic transmission (sorry, no more manual). Rear-wheel drive is standard, but if you want extra traction all-wheel drive is available. Infiniti also offers a Direct Adaptive Steering system as an option which offers a precise steering feel via a computer controlled electronic system that can smooth out inputs from road imperfections and even wind. Owners can also calibrate their own settings for a customized driving experience.

Inside, the redesigned center console now features two touchscreens, an innovative touch with good integration. The two screens can work independently or together; for example with the optional navigation system, the top screen can display a map while the bottom is used to input the destination, or search points of interest. Dual-zone automatic climate control, powered front seats, satellite/HD radio, and Bluetooth connectivity are standard. The Q50 also offers a large trunk area, with 18.0 cubic feet of cargo space.

Standard safety features include six airbags, antilock brakes, and an electronic stability system. The Q50 also offers many of the latest safety technology, with forward collision warning, blind spot warning, backup collision intervention, lane departure prevention, Active Lane Control, and an around-view camera system all optional.
