2010 Hyundai Sonata

How the 2010 Hyundai Sonata stacks up against the competition - by Nigel Cooper, Topanga, CA

Hyundai Sonata Review
2010 Hyundai Sonata
Price Range: $18,700 - $26,550

Utility
The Hyundai Sonata and the typical sedan can accommodate the same number of passengers. The typical sedan outpulls the Hyundai Sonata by a large margin.

Dimensions
The typical sedan's tank is about the same size as the Hyundai Sonata's, though the Hyundai Sonata's is slightly bigger. The typical sedan and the Sonata compete for the same parking spaces.

Convenience
The typical sedan's fuel tank will need to be replenished somewhat more often than the unit in the Hyundai Sonata.

Cost
The destination charge is a standard charge for transporting the vehicle from its point of origin to the dealer. It costs about the same to get the Hyundai Sonata to the dealership as the typical sedan. There really isn't much of a difference in gas mileage here, but if you must know, the typical sedan is somewhat more economical than the Hyundai Sonata. Producing a precise fuel economy evaluation is so difficult that some think not even the federal government can do it, but it looks as though both the Hyundai Sonata and the Hyundai Sonata perform approximately similarly as far as fuel economy. The typical sedan is tremendously more expensive than the Hyundai Sonata in terms of MSRP.

Handling
With their comparable turning circles, the Sonata and the typical sedan most certainly handle almost the same into and out of tight spots.

Drivetrain
The Hyundai Sonata's engine is significantly smaller than the typical sedan's. Bear in mind that a smaller engine usually has to work a little harder; on the flip side, smaller engines are often cheaper to fix. Torque equals pickup, and the typical sedan will have picked up and gone by the time the Hyundai Sonata finally gets moving.

Comfort
Taller drivers will significantly enjoy the extra head room in the Sonata's front cabin compared to the average sedan. The Hyundai Sonata is not particularly roomier for your passengers than the typical sedan.

Warranty
The basic after-sale protection that comes with the typical sedan isn't quite as generous as the Hyundai Sonata's.
