The 2017 Hyundai Santa Fe Sport is a midsize SUV that seat up to 5 passengers. For 2017, it underwent a substantial midcycle refresh, which includes a front-end facelift, updated technology options, and a retuning for slightly better fuel economy.
Three trims are available: the base model, 2.0T, and 2.0T Ultimate.
Overall, the Santa Fe Sport has a sleeker, chiseled front-end that includes a hollowed-out grille and an aggressive fascia. The optional LED daytime running lights and fog lights have also been restyled to match. Standard features include power/heated side mirrors, chrome door handles, and LED accent lights. Available features include HID headlights, turn-signals indicators at the side mirrors, a power liftgate, a roof rack, and a panoramic moonroof.
Under the hood, the Santa Fe Sport is powered by a standard 185-hp, 2.4-liter 4-cylinder engine mated to a 6-speed automatic transmission and front- or all-wheel drive. A 240-hp, turbocharged 2.0-liter 4-cylinder is available as well. This year, horsepower had been downgraded to marginally improve fuel economy and torque. Fuel economy for the base model is an EPA-estimated 21/27 mpg city/highway. It dips slightly to a 20/26 mpg for the base model with AWD. The turbocharged 2.0-liter model earned a 20/28 mpg rating and 19/24 rating with AWD.
Inside, the Santa Fe Sport features a premium cloth interior with updated technology. The center console houses a standard audio system that has Bluetooth connectivity for phone and audio, satellite radio, CD/MP3 playback, and a USB port. It can be upgraded to include a 7- or 8-inch touchscreen, an integrated navigation system, Android Auto compatibility, and an Infinity premium audio system. The available Hyundai Blue Link Connected car system comes with safety, diagnostic, and remote access features. Other interior options include dual-zone automatic climate control, leather seating, a memory seat/mirrors, power/heated/cooled seats, adaptive cruise control, and automatic dimming rearview mirror. A 40/20/40 split-folding rear bench seat and 12-volt power outlets come standard.
The Santa Fe Sport was named a Top Safety Pick Plus by the Insurance Institute of Highway Safety (IIHS). It also earned a full 5-star overall crash test safety rating from the National Highway Traffic Safety Association (NHTSA). Standard features include a backup camera and a tire pressure monitoring system. A blind spot warning system, rear-cross traffic alert, lane change assist, a surround view camera system, and lane departure warning are also available.
