2013 Hyundai Genesis Sedan Overview
A luxury car in Hyundai clothing, the 2013 Genesis offers a compelling mix of driving dynamics and luxury.
The Genesis was Hyundai’s first upscale offering, targeting premium/luxury cars of the same size while at the same time keeping a much lower sticker price than the competition. There aren’t many changes to speak of for the 2013 model year; the 4.6-liter V-8 engine has been dropped and Hyundai’s BlueLink telematics system is now offered.
From the outside, the Genesis certainly looks the part with a refined look that is conservative yet classy. Highlights include the integrated rear dual-exhaust that fits nicely in the rear bumper and the prominent front grille that is different from the rest of Hyundai’s cars to serve notice that the Genesis is a different class of car. 17-, 18-, and 19-inch wheels are offered, while heated side mirrors and fog lights are standard.
There are two available engines for the rear-wheel drive 2013 Genesis. The base engine is a 333-horsepower, 3.8-liter V-6 that makes 291 pounds-feet of torque. Upping the ante is a 429-hosepower, 5.0-liter V-8 that produces 376 pounds-feet of torque and takes premium gas. Both engines are mated to an eight-speed automatic transmission. Fuel economy figures check in at 19 mpg in the city and 29 mpg on the highway with the V-6, while the larger V-8 returns 16/25 mpg city/highway.
It’s not enough for the Genesis to look the part, it has to deliver when it comes to interior quality, comfort, and features. The dash is simple in design but elegant in execution, with a bulging middle that houses a large color touchscreen and climate controls. Comfort features include leather upholstery, heated front seats, and dual automatic temperature control standard. Heated rear seats, a cooled driver’s seat, and seat memory are optional. Like most of Hyundai’s cars, the 2013 Genesis is offered with plenty of standard technology features like Bluetooth connectivity, USB/iPod input, and push button start. Also available are a pair of navigation systems, the aforementioned BlueLink system, 17-speaker audio system, and HD radio.
Standard safety features include antilock brakes, electronic stability system, side-impact and side curtain airbags, and front active head restraints. Options include front/rear parking sensors, a backup camera, and lane departure warning.
