2009 Hyundai Genesis Overview
Stepping out of the shadows of economy and into the spotlight of luxury, the all-new 2009 Hyundai Genesis is ready to prove that one can attain refinement without breaking the bank.
The Genesis is Hyundai’s flagship vehicle in the luxury sedan segment and is chock-full of power, high-tech gadgetry and safety features starting at $32,000. It’s a crowded field, but the Genesis hopes to overshadow the Cadillac STS, Lincoln MKS, Toyota Avalon and Buick Lucerne. While the Genesis is trying to distance itself from the previously mentioned cars, it is playing catch up to the BMW 5-Series and the Mercedes-Benz E-Class.
There are two trims—the 3.8-liter, 290-horsepower V6 and the juiced-up 4.6-liter 375-horsepower V8. Both are rear-wheel-drive and have 6-speed automatic transmissions with SHIFTRONIC®. The V6 gets 18/27 MPG city/highway and the V8 gets 17/26 city/highway. Moderate estimates considering the amount of power you are using. In comparison with the previously mentioned cars, the Genesis has better fuel economy than all of them except for the less powerful Avalon.
Standard features in the V6 include: auxiliary audio input with iPod integration, XM satellite radio, dual zone climate controls, keyless ignition, leather upholstery, 8-way power driver seat, Bluetooth® hands-free phone system and 17-inch alloy wheels. The V8 has the premium package plus and comes equipped with 18-inch Hyper Silver alloy wheels, power glass sunroof, Lexicon® 14-speaker surround sound audio system w/ in-dash 6-disc CD changer, rain sensing wipers and power rear sunshade just to name a few.
The technology package includes a 528-watt Lexicon® 17-speaker surround sound system and complimentary 1-year subscription to XM Satellite Radio and NavTraffic®. HID auto-leveling headlights, navigation system with 40-gig HD and in-dash 6-disc DVD changer are just a few of the features in the Technology package.
With the Genesis, safety also comes standard. 8 airbags with front and rear side-impact door beams, Electronic Stability Control with Traction Control System, ABS with Electronic Brake-fore Distribution and Brake Assist round out just a few safety features.
By offering competitive pricing, interior and exterior refinement with several standard features, the 2009 Hyundai Genesis hopes to be the beginning of a luxury sedan at a non-luxurious price.
