New 2009 HUMMER H3 SUV

Price, Photos, Reviews & Features
2009 HUMMER H3 SUV Overview
The 2009 Hummer H3 is the smallest and sportiest of the three Hummer vehicles from General Motors.  It takes some of the visual style associated with the Hummer brand, including the off-roading capabilities and military aesthetic, and combines it with a more affordable, compact SUV reminiscent of the Chevy Colorado and GMC Canyon.

Save for the introduction of the H3T, a combination of the H3 and a pickup truck's functionality, the 2009 version of the H3 remains relatively unchanged from previous incarnations.  Adding to the  sleek, overall build, the maximum cargo capacity (56 cubic feet) is smaller than that of many other compact and midsized SUV's from other brands.  Towing capacity, however, remains a strength - 3,500 to 5,000 pounds with the base, and up to 6,500 pounds with the Alpha.

Consumers can choose between a 3.5-liter, 220-horsepower, inline five cylinder engine (the base model) or a 5.3-liter, 300-horsepower V-8 (Alpha).  The smaller engine will get around 14 MPG in the city and 18 on the highway; the Alpha decreases that by a mile or two.  (An H3X model, a 5-cylinder wagon with automatic transmission, is also available in either a base H3X option or an H3X Alpha).

The MSRP is $33,390 - $43,130, already making it the most affordable Hummer vehicle.  Standard equipment with that price includes air conditioning, a six-speaker CD stereo, cruise control, OnStar, a Chrome Appearance Package and the usual power windows, doors and locks.  Depending on whether you choose the base or Alpha models, other options include an Off-Road Suspension Package for better hill-climbing, leather upholstery, heated front seats, side curtain airbags, XM Satellite Radio, a rear vision camera system and a stereo with MP3 compatibility.

In terms of safety, the H3 performs well in crash test ratings.  Side guard door beams, antilock brakes, traction control, an anti-skid system, child safety locks, side head curtain airbags and a vehicle tracking and notification system come standard.

The 2009 Hummer H3 is a solid option for those looking for a ride that retains that Hummer style and functionality out in the wild, but without all the bulk and hefty price tag.
