Performance
With respect to horsepower, the Mitsubishi Eclipse packs quite a punch and will knock the Fit down a few rungs. On the other hand, remember that high horsepower engines often command higher insurance premiums.

Handling
The Mitsubishi Eclipse has considerably bigger tires than the Honda Fit. Keep in mind that bigger tires can improve handling, while narrower tires could provide better handling in deep snow. With its tighter turning circle, the Honda Fit is definitely sprier than the Mitsubishi Eclipse, something to consider if you do a lot of city driving; however, keep in mind that a vehicle with a tight turning circle may feel a bit twitchy on the highway.

Drivetrain
The Mitsubishi Eclipse has a bigger engine than the Honda. Keep in mind that smaller engines typically get better gas mileage, but a smaller engine usually has to work a little harder. Torque equals pickup, and the Mitsubishi Eclipse will have picked up and gone by the time the Honda finally gets moving. Torque is the force that lets you accelerate quickly, and in this respect, the Mitsubishi is tremendously more powerful than the Honda Fit.

Drivers with frequent kid-duty might favor the Honda Fit over the Mitsubishi Eclipse.

Taller drivers will quite a bit enjoy the extra head room in the Honda Fit's front cabin compared to the Eclipse. The Fit provides more head- and leg-room to your passengers than the Mitsubishi Eclipse does.

Dimensions
Your wallet will hurt more every time you fill up the Eclipse than the Honda Fit because of its bigger tank. The Honda Fit fits in smaller parking spaces than the Mitsubishi Eclipse.

The destination charge is a standard charge for transporting the vehicle from its point of origin to the dealer. It costs about the same to get the Honda Fit to the dealership as the Mitsubishi. In terms of MSRP, the Mitsubishi Eclipse costs tremendously more than the Fit. The Honda Fit will save you a bundle at the pump every year compared to the Mitsubishi Eclipse.
