2009 Honda Fit Overview
One of the Internet’s most searched new cars on the market today, the 2009 Honda Fit is redesigned and larger than ever. And that doesn’t mean buyers will have to sacrifice added savings at signing and at the pump.
The Fit is a subcompact hatchback available in two trim levels. Both Base and Sport feature a 1.5-liter, 117-horsepower four-cylinder engine. A five speed manual transmission comes standard while an optional same speed automatic one is available for added driving ease. Subtle differences include 15-inch steel wheels on the Base and 16-inch alloys on the Sport. The entry trim showcases a four-speaker sound system with CD/MP3 player and auxiliary audio input, while the higher-level trim gets you an upgraded audio system with six speakers and a USB port for MP3 players and flash drives. A deluxe navigation system is a desired option with the Sport for travelers without the time to look up directions.
With slightly added length for taller passengers, the Fit boasts more interior cabin room, increased road handling and enhanced seating functionality. Such expanded aspects set the pace for the race of the subcompact class with fellow competitors like the Chevrolet Aveo, Hyundai Elantra, Scion xD and Toyota Yaris. And superior gas mileage at 27-28 MPG city and 33-35 MPG highway is a superb selling point to others in the hatchback category.
Seating up to five passengers comfortably, the Fit’s tilt-and-telescoping steering wheel and extra inch of rear seat legroom increases driving enjoyment, especially on longer trips. With a rear “Magic Seat” that folds completely back for added cargo space, this vehicle is highly flexible and nimble. A wider spread of power stemming from an improved version of i-VTEC variable valve timing has made this next generation Fit that much more desirable.
Honda’s Advanced Compatibility Engineering envelopes the Fit’s body design to be built optimally to absorb impact of other vehicles in crumple zones more favorably for lower vehicle damage and increased passenger safety. Standard safety features include antilock brakes, active front head restraints, front-seat side-impact airbags and curtain airbags. An optional electronic stability system, not commonly found in subcompacts, is available for additional driving peace of mind.
With these mentioned improvements that has made for noticeably better drivability, the 2009 Honda Fit provides for an everyday practicality and a top-notch pick for the subcompact shopper.
