2009 Honda Element Overview
The 2009 Honda Element continues to appeal to a wide range of buyers who enjoy flexibility, huge cargo room, and a host of utilitarian features designed to give them more than just a driving experience.
The standard Element is available in two trim lines – LX and EX – with either two-wheel drive or Real Time™ 4-wheel drive. A third trim level, the Element SC, with aggressive styling and a tuned suspension, is available only in two-wheel drive. All models share a 2.4-liter, 166-horsepower 4-cylinder engine that boasts up to 1,500 pounds of towing capacity – more than adequate for a variety of adventures. Both a five-speed manual and five-speed automatic transmission are available. The available 4WD system engages when wheel slippage is detected and you need maximum tire grip, helping to traverse rough terrain. The Element gets 18-20 mpg in the city and 23-25 mpg on the highway and competes with the Jeep Compass, Ford Escape and Nissan Rogue.
One great thing about the Element is that it has some new looks to go with its superb utility and efficiency. Redesigned headlamps, taillamps and a new front grille all closely resemble the larger Honda Pilot. Now, that’s just the exterior. Inside the Element, behold a new, redesigned center console, new fabric and color schemes. The EX features an available GPS navigation system and USB audio interface for digital media and a removable cooler in the added center console.
With the rear seats folded down, there are 77.1 cubic feet available in 4WD models. Adaptable, configurable seating and versatile cargo design allow you to flip, fold or take the rear seats out for 64 different space options. The clamshell tailgate and side cargo doors allow easy loading and flexible options for hauling. The seats are covered in waterproof FXC™ (Fabric for Extreme Conditions) fabric, which helps to keep the seats clean and dry. The removable skylight (4WD models) can be lifted off, allow you to stand up through the roof to change clothes or simply get some fresh air.
When it comes to safety, the Element has standard side-impact, side curtain and dual-stage, dual-threshold front airbags. Antilock brakes, electronic stability system with traction control, Tire Pressure Monitoring System and side-impact beams come standard, while a rearview camera is optional.
Offering extreme functionality, a host of unique features, and versatile and distinguishable style, the 2009 Honda Element is the perfect SUV for buyers who think outside the box.
