2014 GMC Yukon Overview

Vehicle Overview
The Yukon is GMC's version of the Chevrolet Tahoe and Cadillac Escalade, and all three are full-size SUVs that seat up to nine and are available with rear- or four-wheel drive. They are about 20 inches shorter than the king-size GMC Yukon XL (covered separately in the Research section), Chevrolet Suburban and Cadillac Escalade ESV. The Yukon is more luxurious than the Tahoe with its ritzy Denali model but not as plush as the Escalade. Competitors include the Ford Expedition and Dodge Durango.

GM’s full-size SUVs will be redesigned for the 2015 model year, and the new versions are expected to go on sale in spring 2014.

New for 2014

The hybrid version of the Yukon has been dropped for 2014. SLE models add the features in the Convenience Package to their standard equipment, including power-adjustable pedals, remote start, rear parking assist, and a backup camera with a display in the rearview mirror.

The Yukon is fitted with integrated running boards and standard 17-inch aluminum wheels with available 20-inch wheels. Heated side mirrors help thaw windows and the Chrome honeycomb grille gives the Denali trim an aggressive look. Additional options include a power liftgate and power-retractable running boards for the Denali.

The GMC Yukon supports comfortable seating for up to nine with three-place front bench; seats up to eight with front bucket seats. Laced with cloth or leather seats, and a leather-wrapped steering wheel with audio controls, a Bose sound system comes standard with all Yukons. Available options include heated/cooled front seats, DVD rear entertainment system, and touch-screen navigation system. It has a maximum cargo volume of 108.9 cubic feet.

Under the Hood

Powered by a  Flex-fuel 320-horsepower, 5.3-liter V-8 with 335 pounds-feet of torque (SLE, SLT) or a Flex-fuel 403-hp, 6.2-liter V-8 with 417 pounds-feet of torque (Denali), both V-8s feature fuel-saving cylinder-deactivation technology. Available in AWD or FWD drivetrain, the Yukon comes In a six-speed automatic transmission. It has a maximum towing capacity of 8,500 pounds, when properly equipped.

Safety Features

The Yukon has a variety of standard safety features including side curtain airbags with rollover sensor, seat-mounted side-impact airbags for the front row, four-wheel-disc antilock brakes, electronic stability system with traction control, and trailer-sway control and hill start assist. Blind spot warning system available.
