2009 GMC Yukon Overview
When it comes to improved power, fuel efficiency, increased seating and all-around fun, the 2009 GMC Yukon answers the call.
The Yukon comes in three trim levels – SLE, SLT and Denali, with the Yukon Hybrid and XLT available for those who desire more. The Yukon has three engines and can be as powerful as you would like it to be. The 2WD SLE has a 4.8-liter, 295-horsepower V-8 and is mated to a four-speed automatic transmission, while other SLE’s and SLT’s feature a 5.3-liter, 310-horsepower V-8 mated to a six-speed automatic. The Denali features a 6.2-liter, 403-horsepower V-8 beast and along with the 5.3-liter engine, is flex-fuel compatible, featuring E85 FlexFuel capability, allowing the engine to run on a gasoline/ethanol blend. The Yukon competes with the Ford Expedition and Toyota Sequoia.
Cargo room is very generous, with a maximum of 108.9 cubic feet with a standard third-row seat removed and second row seat folded. An optional power liftgate makes getting in and out of the trunk much easier. Towing capacity is extremely competitive, with a maximum of 8,200 pounds on V-8-equipped 4WD models.
Amenities are plentiful, inside and out. An array of 18- and 20-inch aluminum wheels announce you’ve arrived in style. Ultrasonic rear park assist provides an audible beep to indicate your distance from objects when backing up. An optional Bose® nine-speaker audio system with dual-play CD/MP3/DVD player provides excellent acoustic clarity. The optional navigation radio includes voice recognition and a touch-screen navigation screen for ease of use.
The Yukon has a five-star frontal crash test rating from the NHTSA, making it one of the safest vehicles in the full-size SUV class. Dual front airbags and head-curtain side airbags for all rows are standard, with a rollover sensor for added protection. Also standard is the StabiliTrak electronic stability control system, improving vehicle stability during emergency maneuvers. The standard anti-lock braking system helps to maintain control by reducing wheel lockup during hard braking. An optional rearview-mirror-integrated camera system helps when backing up and is new for 2009.
