2012 GMC Yukon XL 2500 Overview

If you’re looking to take it to the max in terms of seating and towing capacity, you’ll be hard-pressed to find a better SUV than the big-time 2012 GMC Yukon XL 2500.

The Yukon family runs deep and includes the regular model, the half-ton XL 1500, a hybrid, and this, the three-quarter ton XL 2500. Available in three trims: SLE, SLT and high-end Denali, the Yukon XL 2500 gains heated leather-trimmed front seats (standard) and a heated steering wheel (optional) to the SLT trim. The Denali trim adds a blind spot warning system to its impressive list of standard features. A sibling of the Chevrolet Suburban, the Yukon XL 1500 competes with the Ford Expedition EL and the Lincoln Navigator L.

Powering the Yukon XL 2500 is a base 352-horsepower, 6.0-liter V-8 that produces a generous 382 pounds-feet of torque. The Denali trim has a 403-horsepower, 6.2-lilter V-8 that produces 417 pounds-feet of torque. When properly equipped, the XL 2500 can tow up to 9,600 pounds. Speaking of towing, the Yukon XL has an available integrated trailer brake controller that provides proper brake-force signaling. Heavy-duty multileaf springs replace the five-link coil-spring rear suspension of the XL 2500, and a hydraulic brake booster supplements the braking system with additional pressure.

What sets the GMC Yukon XL 2500 apart from the regular Yukon is its length. The XL is approximately 20 inches longer than the regular Yukon and has almost 49 cubic feet of space behind the third row. Take advantage of 137.4 cubic feet of space (third row removed and second row folded) if you need to fill the Yukon XL up to the brim. All of that room is best-in-class according to GMC. You can fit up to nine passengers and enjoy a standard leather-wrapped steering wheel, power heated side mirrors, 17-inch wheels, satellite radio, a USB port and a Bose sound system. Take it up a notch with an optional power liftgate, power-operated retractable running boards, a power sunroof, leather-appointed seats, heated/cooled seats, a DVD entertainment system and a touchscreen navigation system.

The 2012 GMC Yukon XL 2500 takes safety very serious with side curtain airbags with rollover sensors, seat-mounted side-impact airbags for the front seats, four-wheel-disc antilock brakes, and an electronic stability system with traction control.

There isn’t a task too small for the spacious, powerful and luxurious (Denali) 2012 GMC Yukon XL 2500.
