2011 GMC Sierra 3500HD Overview
With improvements across the board – from payload and hauling capacities, to horsepower and torque and many more, the 2011 GMC Sierra 3500HD pickup truck is the real deal.
Starting with power, the 2011 GMC Sierra 3500HD receives a new optional 397-horsepower, 6.6-liter Duramax V-8 turbo-diesel that packs an astounding 765 pounds-feet of torque (an improvement of 105 lb-ft) and is mated to a stronger, Allison 1000 six-speed automatic transmission with manual shift control. A 360-horsepower, 6.0-liter V-8 (380 pounds-feet of torque) gasoline engine is standard and is mated to a six-speed automatic transmission. Rear-wheel drive comes standard for all models, with four-wheel drive optional. Choose between a traditional floor-mounted transfer case or an Autotrac knob-controlled electric transfer case that engages when wheel slippage is detected. Even though the new diesel engine produces more power, it delivers 11 percent better fuel economy and lower emissions over last year’s model.
One of the biggest changes to the 2011 GMC Sierra HD lineup is the all-new fully boxed frame that improves towing capacity to 20,000 pounds when pulling a fifth-wheel trailer with a dual-rear-wheel Duramax diesel and up to 14,500 pounds pulling a fifth-wheel trailer with a single-rear-wheel gas V-8. Five of the twelve 3500HD models offer a payload capability greater than 6,000 pounds. The new, stronger frame also reduces noise, vibration and harshness. Bigger brakes provide enhanced stopping power, while a standard trailer-sway control system helps keep your attachments in-line at high speeds.
The 2011 GMC Sierra 3500HD is as versatile as it is strong and utilizes several cab configurations: regular cab (8 foot bed), extended cab and crew cab (6.5 foot bed). Trim levels include: base Work Truck, SLE and SLT. Available options such as a USB port, sunroof, navigation system, DVD entertainment system, Bluetooth connectivity, XM Radio, front leather-appointed heated bucket seats, 12-way-power seats and Bose premium speaker system will have you hauling in luxury.
On the outside of the 2011 Sierra 3500HD, a new three-bar grille adorns new louvered hoods that accompany a revised chrome front bumper and new 17-, 18- and 20-inch wheels (with trailer-profile tires).
When it comes to safety, not only is the frame rigid and strong, but antilock disc brakes, hill-start control and stability control comes standard. Safety options include front-side and side curtain airbags and a rearview camera.
For all of your hauling and towing needs, the powerful, sturdy and efficient 2011 GMC Sierra 3500HD pickup can do it all.
