2009 GMC Sierra 1500 Hybrid Overview
No, the sky is not falling.  Proving that one can have immense towing/hauling capacity, off-road capability and best-in class fuel economy in a truck has turned from imagination to reality with the all-new 2009 GMC Sierra 1500 Hybrid.

Sporting a two-mode hybrid system that blends a 6.0-liter Vortec V-8 gasoline engine with Active Fuel Management and a 300-volt battery pack, the Sierra 1500 Hybrid generates a total of 332-horsepower.  Cruise up to 30 mph on electricity alone, while the battery recharges itself off the friction generated from braking.  Tow up to 6,100 pounds with rear-wheel drive and 5,900 pounds with four-wheel drive.  Fuel economy is increased 40 percent in the city and 25 percent overall.  That translates to 20-21 mpg in the city and 20-22 mpg on the highway.  The gas-only version gets 13-15/16-20 mpg city/highway.   The Chevrolet Silverado Hybrid is the Sierra 1500 Hybrid’s only competition.

One other aspect of the 1500 Hybrid that you will have to adapt to is its quietness.  Because of the electric motors, new exhaust system and other components, the 1500 Hybrid is almost stealth-like.  Available in Crew Cab form, the bed is long enough to hold an array of cargo. Go all out and add Bluetooth to your truck.  If you're off-roading, feel secure by adding XM NavTraffic so you will know that you will never be completely lost.

While standard options vary depending on the trim choice, significant safety features are standard such as four-wheel-disc antilock brakes, traction control and an electronic stability system.  The Sierra 1500 Hybrid has driver and front passenger airbags, OnStar assistance and a panic alarm should you need it.  Feel secure that it scored five out of five stars in both driver and passenger NHTSA Frontal Crash Tests.

The 2009 GMC Sierra 1500 Hybrid is a step in the right direction toward improved fuel economy and utility for all of your off-roading and towing/hauling needs.
