  • One of three GMC Cargo vans
  • Offered in both cargo and passenger versions
  • Trio of V-8 engines with a variety of fuel options
The 2014 GMC Savana 3500 is a flexible van option, offering plenty of cargo room or seating for up to 15 passengers.

Offered in both passenger and cargo versions, the heavy-duty 3500 is the largest of GMC’s three-member lineup of vans along with the light-duty 1500 and the heavy-duty 2500. The larger 2500 and 3500 are offered with extended wheelbases, 155-inches vs 135-inches for the regular wheelbase (passenger versions of the 3500 are offered with both wheelbases as well).

3500 models have three different V-8 engine options. The base engine is a 285-hp, 4.8-liter V-8 that makes 295 pounds-feet of torque, mated to a six-speed automatic transmission. Also available is a 342-hp, 6.0-liter V-8 that makes 373 pounds-feet of torque; both of the aforementioned engines are Flex Fuel capable, which means they can run on gasoline or E85 ethanol. The final engine option is a 260-hp, 6.6-liter V-8 Duramax turbodiesel that makes a whopping 525 pounds-feet of torque.

The 3500 is very capable as well in terms of payload capacity and towing, offering the highest numbers of all three vans. It can carry up to 4,394 pounds of payload in the back and has a maximum towing rating of 10,000 pounds. Inside cargo models, there is 239.7 cubic feet of cargo volume, which expands to 284.4 cubic feet in extended wheelbase models. Passenger versions come with standard seating for 12 passengers across four rows, but an extra row can be added which pushed capacity all the way up to 15 passengers, or the full roster of an NBA basketball team.

Safety features include four-wheel antilock disc brakes, three-row side curtain airbags in passenger vans, and an electronic stability system.
