2012 GMC Savana 3500 Overview
The 2012 GMC Savana 3500 is the one-ton powerhouse van in the line of Savana cargo and passenger vans, available in both regular- and extended-wheelbases, and offers the widest selection of engine types and configurations of all the Savana vans. The GMC Savana is a close cousin to the Chevrolet Express.
The Savana 3500 is available in regular-wheelbase (135-inches) or extended-wheelbase (155-inches). Engine choices for the rear-wheel drive Savana range from the 280-horsepower, 4.8-liter, V-8 Flex Fuel gas/ethanol E85 engine, with 373 pounds/feet of torque, 260-horsepower, to the 6.6-liter, V-8 turbo diesel, with 575 pounds/feet of torque, or 279-horsepower, and the 6.0-liter, V-8 compressed natural gas engine, with 320 pounds feet of torque. The Savana 3500 comes with six-speed automatic transmission with tow/haul mode, tap-up/tap-down driver shift control, auto-grade braking, and optional cruise control. Towing capacity for the cargo version is rated at 10,000 pounds with the optional heavy-duty trailering equipment package, and available trailer hitch receiver, while the passenger version is rated at 9900 pounds.
Maximum cargo volume for the regular-wheelbase van comes in at 270-inches, and the extended-wheelbase van delivers a total of 313-inches. Access to cargo, tools and equipment through swing-out 60/40 passenger door access may be upgraded to include a driver-side swing out door for extra convenience.
A chrome appearance package with chrome front and rear bumpers and grille, and halogen composite headlamps is available to add exterior styling to the Savana 3500. Outside rearview mirrors may be upgraded to power operated, heated mirrors with the turn signal indicator in the glass. A sliding passenger-side door is also an available upgrade.
The passenger Savana 3500 seats up to 12 passengers in the regular-wheelbase, and the extended-wheelbase van can seat up to 15 passengers. The front reclining bucket seats may be upgraded to an available driver and front passenger six-way power seat adjuster, and the standard vinyl trim may be upgraded to custom cloth. A leather-wrapped steering wheel with wheel-mounted audio controls is available, and may be paired with the AM/FM stereo with optional CD/MP3 player with USB port and six-speakers. Bluetooth calling and SirusXM satellite radio with free three-month subscription are also available. Front and rear air conditioning is available, and a convenience package adds power windows and power door locks. Tilt-wheel and cruise control come standard on all Savana 3500 models.
Standard safety features for the Savana 3500 include frontal airbags for the driver and front passenger, head curtain side-impact airbags for the first, second, and third row of passengers, and enhanced safety glass in the rearmost side windows. Piece of mind comes standard with the OnStar automatic crash response system, with emergency and roadside assistance service, and includes a free six-month subscription. A stability enhancement system, traction control, four-wheel disc antilock brakes and a tire pressure monitoring system provide added safety and stability on the road. Power door locks with lockout protection and a pass key theft-deterrent system add an additional layer of security.
