2009 GMC Savana 3500 Overview
While the 2009 GMC Savana 3500 could be viewed as out of place amidst today’s world of SUVs and vans, it will always have an important niche for transportation of large groups or lots of cargo. And with a vehicle design that has seen only one major redesign in nearly 40 years of existence, this “Rally Wagon” continues to stand the test of time and durability.

The Savana 3500’s rear-wheel drive works in tandem with a reliable four-speed automatic transmission. There’s plenty of brawn with its three available duty levels - Vortec engines with sizes ranging from a 4.8-liter, 279-horsepower V-8 to a 6.0-liter, 319-horsepower V-8.

Spacious and competent like its twin – the Chevrolet Express - the Savana 3500 stacks up well in terms of standard and available features. It’s seemingly a better buy in terms of overall price to its main competitors: the Ford E-150 and Dodge Sprinter. The Savana 3500 gets decent gas mileage for a vehicle of its class and size. Averaging 14-15 MPG city and 18-20 MPG highway, it’s certainly comparable to any other passenger or cargo transportation options.

There are two passenger van styles for the Savana 3500. Both the LS and LT trim levels showcase electronic traction and stability control, as well as accommodations for up to 15 passengers. The cargo van can tow up to 7,700 pounds.

The Savana 3500 offers detailed driver controls with new gauges and ventilation system controls, part of a redesigned interior upgrade last year. An AM/FM stereo system with 6-disc CD changer features excellent audio quality. Options include power door locks, power windows, cruise control and a tilt steering wheel – all for increased convenience.

Safety features are accented by the StabiliTrak Stability Control System, which helps to keep the ride on the Savana 3500 stable and in control during emergencies. Standard dual front airbags are additional precautions for the driver and front passenger in the event of a collision.

Interior space, towing and cargo-hauling capacity and V-8 performance make the 2009 GMC Savana 3500 one of the best full-size vans around.
