Utility
The GMC Sierra 2500HD is a better choice than the GMC Canyon regarding hauling capacity, especially if you often need to carry a lot of equipment or large dogs. Neither the GMC Canyon nor the Sierra 2500HD has a marked advantage as far as seating capacity. The Sierra 2500HD outpulls the GMC Canyon by a big margin.

Dimensions
The GMC Sierra 2500HD is tremendously more bulky than the GMC Canyon. Your wallet will hurt more every time you fill up the GMC Sierra 2500HD than the Canyon because of its bigger tank. The GMC Canyon fits in smaller parking spaces than the GMC Sierra 2500HD. The GMC Sierra 2500HD's longer wheelbase will result in a smoother, more stable ride; however, the GMC Canyon may give a nimbler feel in daily traffic.

Cost
The destination charge is a standard charge for transporting the vehicle from its point of origin to the dealer. The GMC Canyon is substantially cheaper to get to the dealership than the Sierra 2500HD. With respect to MSRP, the GMC Sierra 2500HD costs tremendously more than the GMC Canyon.
