2010 GMC Canyon Overview
Demanding truck buyers want a vehicle that performs – at the worksite, off-roading, or during everyday commuting. The 2010 GMC Canyon combines aggressive styling, flexible configurations, and an enhanced V-8 engine.
Driving the canyon is a 185-horsepower, 2.9-liter inline-four; a 242-horsepower, 3.7-liter inline-five engine; or a 300-horsepower, 5.3-liter V-8. These engines are bolted to a five-speed manual or a four-speed automatic transmission, and power is delivered to a two- or part-time four-wheel drive system with optional locking rear differential. Fuel economy is rated at 14-18 mpg in the city and 19-25 mpg on the highway. Fuel economy is competitive, and power is superior to the Ford Ranger, Toyota Tacoma and Nissan Frontier. With a payload of up to 1,422 pounds and towing capability of up to 6,000 pounds, the Canyon is a confident workhorse.
On the two-door model, the 2010 GMC Canyon offers more legroom than the Ford Ranger, Toyota Tacoma and Dodge Dakota. A bench seat for three is joined by power features, a leather-wrapped steering wheel and OnStar satellite communications – all standard. Extended and four-door crew cab models open up second row seating and additional interior cargo room. Options on the base model include XM Satellite Radio and a CD player. On the SLE model, remote power door locks, XM Satellite Radio and a CD player are all standard, while power-adjustable front seats with heat are optional. Exterior options such as fog lamps let you add flare and functionality. The Z71 off-road package adds serious utility and lets you have fun in the mud. The SLT model makes many optional features standard, and opens up available heated leather seating.
Safety is part of the package with the 2010 GMC Canyon, starting with dual front and optional two-row head curtain airbags. Antilock brakes, stability and traction control systems are all standard features that help the driver keep the Canyon from sliding out of control. When impacts happen, occupants can take confidence in the Five-Star front impact rating on the full-size four-door cab; extended cab and regular cab models receive Four-Star front crash results.
The 2010 GMC Canyon combines ruggedness, raw power, utility and sufficient amenities to make it a major player in the compact pickup segment.
