The Transit Connect has two available trims: the XL and XLT.
The sporty, zippy appearance of the Transit Connect matches its purpose as a city-driver. Loading and unloading is convenient with standard dual sliding doors and available rear liftgate or 180-degree swing-out rear doors. The wagon configuration has door windows for increased passenger visibility.
Two engine options are available: a 169-hp, 2.5-liter 4-cylinder and a 173-hp, 1.6-liter 4-cylinder. Both engines are mated to a 6-speed automatic transmission and front-wheel drive. Fuel economy is an EPA-estimated 20/28 mpg city/highway for the Transit Connect with the 2.5-liter. It increases to 22/29 mpg for the Transit Connect with the 1.6-liter.
Inside, the Transit Connect is outfitted with a standard 4.2-inch multifunction display. It can be upgraded to a 6.5-inch touchscreen with the MyFord Touch multimedia system, which features Bluetooth connectivity for phone and audio, satellite radio, navigation, information updates, and climate control. Remote keyless entry, power front windows, air conditioning, and a tilt/telescoping steering wheel come standard. The extended wheelbase van has a maximum cargo capacity of 128.6 cubic feet. The wagon model can seat up to seven passengers across three rows.
The Transit Connect Wagon earned a full 5-Star overall crash test safety rating from the NHTSA. The optional MyKey system alerts the driver when a preset vehicle speed and stereo volume are surpassed. Other available features include rain-sensing wipers, a backup camera, a blindspot warning system with cross-traffic alert, and front and rear parking sensors. Standard features include front airbags, antilock brakes, an electronic stability system, and a tire-pressure monitoring system.
