2009 Ford Taurus Overview
Even though it’s in its second year back from a long hiatus, the 2009 Ford Taurus is serious about sticking around this time. Formerly the Ford Five Hundred, the new Taurus features bold exterior styling and sufficient power that is sure to recapture the glory of the old Taurus.
The Taurus packs a decent amount of punch with a 3.5-liter, 263-horsepower V-6 and is mated to a six-speed automatic transmission. Offered in two trim levels, the SEL and Limited, the Taurus features standard front-wheel drive or optional all-wheel drive for superior handling in a variety of road and weather conditions. The Taurus has average fuel economy with 17-18 MPG in the city and 24-28 MPG on the highway. Competition for the Taurus include: the Chevrolet Impala and the Toyota Avalon.
With best-in-class passenger and trunk space the Taurus seats five and features a 60/40-split folding rear seat. Get 21.2 cubic feet of storage between the trunk and front seat with the rear seat folded. A leather-wrapped steering wheel and remote keyless entry are standard, while a sunroof is available on the SEL and Limited trims. The vehicle features standard anti-lock brakes, six airbags, and the Safety Canopy System with rollover sensor and side curtain airbags, keeping you secure in the event of an accident or rollover. As a result, it has a full 5-star crash test rating from the NHTSA, making the Taurus the highest-rated full-size car in America. Electronic stability control and a new standard SOS-Post Crash Alert System, which unlocks the vehicle doors and activates the horn and emergency flashers when the airbags are deployed, are standard.
