2010 Ford Ranger Overview
Featuring a powerful V-6 engine option and two sporty, performance-oriented trim levels, Ford continues its tough-truck mentality with the 2010 Ford Ranger compact pickup truck.
The 2010 Ford Ranger is available in XL, XLT and Sport trim levels, regular and extended cab configurations and with a standard 6-foot bed or available 7-foot bed on the XL regular cab. In standard rear-wheel drive, the Ranger is equipped with a 143-horsepower, 2.3-liter inline-4 engine mated to a five-speed manual with an optional automatic version of this transmission. If you want more power, a 207-horsepower, 4.0-liter V-6 engine mated to a five-speed manual transmission is available; however, you can still opt for a four-wheel-drive model with a five-speed automatic. Class-leading EPA estimated fuel economy ratings range between 14-22 mpg in the city and 18-27 mpg on the highway. When properly equipped, the 2010 Ford Ranger can tow up to 6,000 pounds.
With Toyota Tacoma, GMC Canyon, Chevrolet Colorado and Nissan Frontier lurking in the shadows, the 2010 Ford Ranger adds some new standard features to stay competitive in the compact pickup segment, including roll stability control, side-impact airbags, air conditioning and a Class III trailer hitch. However, the FX4 off-road model has been discontinued in the U.S.
Inside, you can choose from a 60/40-split bench seat or bucket seats, both available in leather upholstery. Two-door extended cab models add a standard rear jump seat and seven-speaker Pioneer sound system, while a leather-wrapped steering wheel is offered in the XLT and Sport. The 2010 Ford Ranger sits on standard 15-inch steel wheels and the XLT adds the same size wheels but in alloy, heavy-duty shock absorbers and tow hooks.
The 2010 Ford Ranger offers a host of standard safety features, including front and side-impact airbags, tire pressure monitoring system and electronic stability control with roll stability control, which cuts engine throttle and helps prevent rollovers by applying the four-channel antilock braking system to brake individual wheels.
