The popular 2012 Ford Fusion Hybrid is an excellent choice for those in the market for a family-friendly hybrid. US News ranked the 2012 Fusion Hybrid the third-best vehicle in affordable, midsize vehicles, rating it one of the best hybrid cars for the money and for the family for its roomy interior and numerous technology features.

The 2.5-liter, I-4 gas engine works with an electric motor to provide a combined net maximum 191-net horsepower.The electric motor, powered by a 275-volt nickel-metal-hydride (NiMH) battery pack, serves as the main source of power up to 47 mpg, and the gas engine provides extra power for accelerating, passing, merging, and speeds above 47 mpg. The electronically controlled continuously variable transmission (eCVT) sends power to the front wheels, and the regenerative braking system allows the Fusion Hybrid to recover over 90 percent of kinetic braking energy to recharge the hybrid battery and also minimizes wear on brake pads.

Inside, the Fusion Hybrid’s roomy interior seats five comfortably, and the eco-friendly cloth seating is made from 85 percent post-industrial recycled materials. Leather-trimmed upholstery and heated front seats are available as options. The Fusion Hybrid features a 10-way power driver’s seat with and four-way power front passenger seat with power driver lumbar and passenger recline. The SYNC voice activated communications and entertainment plus 911-assist comes standard, as do the six-speaker audio system with in-dash CD Changer and MP3 capability, and SiruisXM Satellite Radio with six-month trial subscription. Drivers can also opt for an advanced navigation system with SiriusXM Traffic and Travel Link, and a Sony audio system with 12-speaker surround sound.

The Fusion Hybrid is also outfitted with an eco-guide instrument cluster with two LCD screens and message center. Animated leaves and branches “grow” when the vehicle is driven economically offering even more incentive to drive economically. The 2012 Fusion Hybrid is also the only Fusion to feature a standard 110-volt power outlet, perfect for charging a cellphone or laptop while on the go.

Seventeen-inch, 15-spoke painted aluminum wheels come standard, and an optional power tilt-and-slide moonroof is available. The 2012 Ford Fusion Hybrid is also equipped with a capless refuel filler system. An optional remote start system allows the Fusion Hybrid to be prewarmed or precooled before the driver and passengers step into the vehicle.

Safety features include a standard reverse sensing system, which notifies the driver to objects up to six feet behind the vehicle by sounding an alert. An optional driver’s vision package adds a rearview camera, cross traffic alert, and rain sensing wipers. The Fusion Hybrid is also equipped with standard safety features like seven airbags, four-wheel disc antilock brakes, electronic stability control, and a standard keyless entry keypad on the driver’s door provides added convenience and a layer of security.
