2014 Ford Fusion Energi Overview (See Available Styles)

  • Plug-in hybrid version of the Fusion midsize sedan
  • Now available nationwide
  • 21 miles of electric-only range; 43 combined mpg
The 2014 Ford Fusion Energi is a plug-in hybrid that offers both gas-free and hybrid motoring in an eco-friendly package that will save you even more money at the pump.

Ford sells three versions of its Fusion midsize sedan: the gas-powered Fusion, the Fusion Hybrid, and the Fusion Energi plug-in hybrid which is covered here. For 2014, the Fusion Energi is now available at Ford EV certified dealers nationwide after only being offered in select states last year.

The Fusion Energi’s powertrain combines a 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine running on the Atkinson cycle with an electric motor that is powered by a 7.6kW lithium-ion battery pack; they produce 195 total horsepower. Ford says on a full charge, the Fusion Energi offers an electric-only range of 21 miles at speeds of up to 82 mph. This bests comparable cars like the Prius Plug-in and the Accord Plug-in on both range and top electric speed. Ford also says that the average daily commute in the USA is around 20 miles, which potentially means that your commute could become emissions free.

Charging happens through a small port on the front, driver’s side of the Fusion Energi via a standard 120-volt plug or an available 240-volt charging station that requires separate installation. Charge time is seven hours with the 120-volt plug, or three hours with the 240-volt charging station. When the electric power does run out, the Fusion Energi operates more like a normal hybrid with regenerative braking returning power to the batteries. Running on gas, the Fusion Energi’s fuel economy checks in at 44/41 mpg city/highway. Add that to the electric range and the Fusion Energi has a total range of 620 miles.

Offered in SE and Titanium trims, the Fusion Energi packs in more standard features than the regular Fusion. Dual-zone automatic climate control, specialized gauges, SYNC with MyFord Touch, leather upholstery, heated/powered front seats, and Bluetooth connectivity all come standard. A power moonroof, push-button start, and a navigation system are optional.

The futuristic 2014 Fusion Energi is also offered with some of the most advanced safety options around, including an Active Park Assist system which can automatically steer the car into a parallel parking spot while the driver only has to control the gas and brake, and an adaptive cruise control system which will automatically maintain following distance with the car ahead of you.
